How warranties work

Manufacturers offer warranties covering parts and often labour for a set number of years. Length varies by brand and model, and some extended warranties are only available when an approved installer fits the boiler.

Common conditions

To keep a warranty valid, manufacturers often require:

  • Registration of the boiler within a set time after installation
  • An annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded in the service record
  • A system clean and, in some cases, a filter fitted at installation
  • Installation in line with the manufacturer's instructions

What's often excluded

Warranties generally cover faults with the boiler itself, not problems caused by sludge in the system, frozen pipes, poor installation or damage. Read the terms and keep all paperwork together.

Common questions

Who registers the boiler warranty?

Often the installer, but check – sometimes it's up to you.

Does a warranty cover radiators?

No, it covers the boiler only.

What if I miss a service?

It may affect the warranty. Check the manufacturer's terms.
