Benchmark checklist and installation certificate with a rosette seal and a pen

The Benchmark checklist

The Benchmark checklist, usually in the back of the manual or provided digitally, records how the boiler was commissioned – gas rates, combustion readings, system cleaning and controls. It also has a service record for future visits.

Building regulations certificate

In England and Wales, a Gas Safe registered engineer can self-certify that a new boiler installation meets building regulations. You should then receive a compliance certificate, normally by post. Rules differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland, so ask your engineer what applies.

Other documents

Keep these together:

  • Manufacturer's warranty registration confirmation
  • User manual and installation instructions
  • Your quote and invoice
  • Any guarantee from the installer
  • Electrical certificates if new circuits were added

Common questions

What if I don't receive the certificate?

Ask your installer. Gas Safe Register can also help.

Is the Benchmark checklist required?

It's widely used and often a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.

Do I need paperwork for a boiler repair?

Repairs don't usually generate a compliance certificate, but keep invoices.
