Step one: a gas connection

First, check whether the gas network reaches your property and arrange a connection with the network operator, who will install the supply and meter. This can take some time, so start early.

Step two: the installation

Once the meter is in, a Gas Safe registered engineer will typically:

  • Run a gas supply from the meter to the boiler position
  • Remove the old oil boiler
  • Fit a new gas boiler, often a combi or system boiler
  • Clean the system and fit a filter
  • Commission and register the new boiler

The oil tank

The oil tank and any remaining oil need safe removal and disposal, often by a specialist. Ask whether this is included in your quote, and use up as much oil as possible beforehand.

Is converting to gas worth it?
